Most colleges like to see 3-4 years of high school math so most kids have no choice but to find their way through it. The perimeter of a given rectangle is equal to the circumference of a given circle. They probably never were going to need that exact math, but the value for most kids is in the exercise it gives their brains. So, Perimeter of circle is actually circumference of circle. The diameter of the wheels of a bicycle is 100 cm. But, since the diameter is twice the radius of a circle, the diameter is equal to 140.12 yards. The circumference of a circle is calculated using the formula: 2 x x radius, where is a mathematical constant, equal to about 3.14159. Therefore, the radius of the circle is 70.06 yards. When my kids would tell me they weren't going to need the math that was being forced upon them, I always told them they were right. Distance around the circle is called circumference of circle. Divide both sides by 6.28 to get, R 70.06. You will usually just plug in a known radius into the equation to figure out the circumference or you may plug in a known circumference to determine the radius.
